I love pretty much all of these bands and seeing this year's lineup actually reminds me of some of the concerts I've been to back home in California...brings back some great memories of great times spent with some of my best friends. It's amazing how music can bring people together..how you can literally feel the energy of the crowd...how a song that you love so much can completely lift you up and have you jumping up and down in the air (or even motivate you to push that much harder in your own daily workout!).<br />

It's a fun bright neon color that I thought would be great for the summer; not only for teaching but to wear in my own practice!</div>

For many yogis, there's that one particular pose that you might think is "impossible." For some it's head stand, others dancer's pose, the list goes on...for me, Crow pose at one point was one of those "impossible" poses for me.<br />

One of the most amazing things happened because I was able to hold crow pose for the first time without any assistance (from a block, assist, etc.) so it was really exciting to just have that moment. I think back to this time last year when I was still going through teacher training for yoga & how I initially was terrified of the thought of teaching a vinyasa class. I figured how in the world am I going to be able to teach someone how to get into crow pose if I can't do it myself? Well the more I continued to practice the easier it has become..before today I would use the assistance of a block to help get me into the pose, but today I was feeling a bit adventurous so I thought to myself why not give it a whirl and see if I can pop into it!<br />

One of the awesome things about crow pose is that it is a foundational pose for arm balances...(so at some point I'd like to work my way into headstands).<br />

I hyped myself up, was super excited and thought I was going to be like Kate Bosworth in Blue Crush. Instead the experience was more about me struggling to paddle on my board, choking on ocean water & practically crashing my board onto someone as I attempted to stand up. It basically turned out to be a bit of a disaster, I felt very frustrated and to be quite honest I didn't really have a desire to try that again, but since I am going back home to California this weekend I thought...maybe I can give it another shot. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

To prepare myself for the second time around at surfing I figured I'd read up on some tips for beginner surfers and really liked this philosophy from the <a href="http://www.surfinghandbook.com/knowledge/beginners-surfing-tips/learn-to-surf/">surfinghandbook.com.</a><br />

<i><b>"Before you begin, decide that you won’t get too frustrated. Surfing is supposed to be fun!</b> It can be fun to just sit on your board and enjoy the beauty of the ocean without catching a single wave. If you’re not having fun, take a break. The last thing you want to do is get so upset that you vow never to return to the water again. Ask any surfer and they’ll tell you it is NOT an easy sport to learn. It can take a long time to develop the experience needed to do certain moves and read weather and wave patterns. <b>Surfing generally favors those with a “try try again” attitude, so try to adopt this mentality.</b> The only way to get better is to keep practicing!"</i><br />

I thought that was really awesome & actually made me feel better and more excited about trying surfing for the second time. What really stood out to me was that I felt like the whole philosophy relates to the yogi journey because so many times I feel like I might get wrapped up in what a certain pose is supposed to look like or how it's not possible for me to do a headstand, etc. but when I think about the whole experience being fun and even looking back to my first time taking yoga..I don't think I really had any idea what I was doing. I remember looking around the room with a puzzled look, thinking how in God's name are they doing that?!..and how the hell did they get into that?? Or my fear of having to demonstrate crow pose in front of students..I realize now that it's fine to be exactly where I am at in my practice because each day I am still continuing to grow. Before I don't think I could even lift a toe off the mat when trying to do Crow pose, but now I am teaching it every week.<br />
<br />
I'm really excited about giving surfing another shot, I anticipate that it's probably going to be difficult but I'm just looking forward to "enjoying the beauty of the ocean" and spending a day at the beach with my awesome family...and maybe we'll even do some post-yoga surfing. =)<br />

Today I brought the theme of the <i>Dragon</i> into my classes. With the Lunar New Year, 2012 is the year of the Water Dragon. The Year of the Water Dragon is said to be a year for great, deeds, innovative ideas and big projects. The year of the Dragon is also said to bring excitement, big ups and downs in our lives.<br />
<br />
What makes the Dragon special is that unlike the other Chinese Zodiacs, some may view the Dragon as a mythical creature rather than an actual animal. What I found special about the Dragon is that it is a <i>karmic</i> animal, it is said to give happiness and success to all good and honest people.<br />
<br />
So this year we should give love, share happy thoughts and love & happiness will return to us. Since the Dragon is a karmic animal, it returns positive energy which you give to others.<br />
<br />
I felt that the ideas and meaning of the Year of the Dragon really tied in with the "yogi journey" because many yogis (myself included) sometimes focus on what their practice should look like or maybe worry that they are not advanced enough to try a certain pose, etc; when what we should be focusing on is the excitement of perhaps trying something new or even focusing on the present. It is said that in order to bring good fortune for the new year, on New Year's Day you should not focus on things of the past, but instead focus on the present. This is something you can definitely relate this into your yogi practice especially because the focus of your practice should always be in the present moment; not worrying about anything else.<br />
<br />
Another special aspect of the Dragon is that it's viewed as the "free spirit" of the Zodiac. So if this year you are looking to try something new or maybe you have some impossible dream...maybe 2012 is the year to make it happen. If you would have asked me three years ago when I was still living in LA if I would have thought I would be teaching yoga in Chicago...I don't think I would have even dreamed of that happening. I may not have everything in life figured out, but I am okay with that and I do expect that with the year of the Dragon I'll experience excitement, big ups & big downs, but am happy and excited for what the new year has to offer.<br />

I like that the top has a built-in bra and I really liked the fit with the keyhole opening in the back. I was doing yoga for about 2 hours in the storefront and the top definitely allowed me to continue with my flow; the top is from their "Go Dry!" line and the fabric is moisture wicking so it still allowed my skin to breathe as well.<br />

I really liked the fit of these pants, especially since they are fitted at the bottom of the pants. There is also a mesh trim that's below the waistband which provides ventilation.<br />

Both legs are very active in this pose..the benefits of this pose is that it is a great stretch for the side body as well a great hip opener. Reverse warrior also helps build strength in the lower body.<br />

I was so happy when I got these Mala Beads today because not only do I love the color <b><span style="color: cyan;">turquoise</span></b>, I really love the meaning of these beads and the mantras they are charged with. I can appreciate on a personal level the idea that Turqoise is an "efficient healer" and helps calm the nerves...when I first started teaching yoga I let my nerves get the best of me (at times I am still guilty of that) but once I let go of that fear is when I am able to truly connect with my students. I am still continuing this "yogi journey" where I am learning something new everyday, whether it be from my peers or students, and understand now that in order to deepen the experience for my students I need to first believe that I have the confidence to hold the room. Turquoise is associated with the "throat chakra" aka Vishudda Chakra which is associated with "creativity and self-expression;" which are two very important aspects to me as a yoga instructor. I love having the ability to express myself and create a flow that reflects my personality.<br />
